What Can BOTOX Treat?
Our plastic surgeon on the Main Line, PA, uses BOTOX to correct several signs of aging that develop in the face, such as:
Crow's Feet
Fine lines and wrinkles radiating from the outer corners of the eyelids.
Forehead Lines
Horizontal lines extending across the forehead.
Frown Lines
Vertical creases between the eyebrows, also known as 11 lines.
Marionette Lines
Creases running from the outer corners of the mouth down to the chin.
Sagging Eyebrows
Minor drooping in eyebrows that weighs down the upper eyelid.
Lip Lines
Vertical lines around the lips, also called lipstick or smoker's lines.

A Closer Look at BOTOX
We understand that many patients have concerns about what is going into their bodies with injectable treatments. Dr. Hove and the team at our Paoli office on the Main Line are happy to explain.
Botulinum toxin (BOTOX for short) is a purified substance made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin will block certain chemical signals to the nerves and prevent muscle contraction. This in turn prevents the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which become visible when certain muscles contract. As your body naturally regenerates new neurotransmitters, the effects of BOTOX will gradually fade away.
The results of BOTOX will typically last for 3-4 months. Repeat injections can prolong the benefits of treatment.
It's Not Just
About the BOTOX
It's Also About Who Administers It
Many professionals who apply BOTOX are physician's assistants or nurses. While they are well-educated, they do not have the same rigorous schooling or experience as a doctor. For a more experienced touch and a minimized risk for complications, you should seek treatment from a provider with advanced training: Dr. Hove.
Dr. Hove specializes in facial plastic surgery, which has resulted in a wider knowledge base and an abundance of expertise in the field. He understands how facial anatomy and muscles work, not only from his medical degree but from the many facial surgical procedures that he completes regularly. This strong skill set allows him to safely inject BOTOX and minimize the possibility of side effects.

Hear From Dr. Hove

Am I a Good Candidate for BOTOX? Factors to Consider Before Choosing Treatment
While BOTOX is safe and effective for most of our patients in the greater Main Line region, there are a few factors that can affect your candidacy.
Age
BOTOX can help patients at practically any stage of life. It is approved for cosmetic use in patients over the age of 18. Since everyone’s skin is different, there is no “correct age” to begin BOTOX; however, many patients benefit from starting preventive care in their 20s and 30s.
Health
BOTOX is not recommended for patients who are pregnant, nursing, or have a known allergy to botulinum toxin. Certain medical conditions may put you at higher risk for side effects. Make sure to go over your medical history with our team before undergoing injections.
Goals
While BOTOX can significantly reduce fine lines and wrinkles, there are limitations to treatment. BOTOX cannot be used to improve sagging or loose skin or to treat wrinkles that are visible without muscle contractions. If you are looking to achieve more dramatic results, plastic surgery may be the better option.
How Long Will Each BOTOX Application Take?
Refreshing your BOTOX results is extremely easy, as each application takes a maximum of 30 minutes at our office, with the procedure itself typically lasting just five to 15 minutes. In fact, many patients visit us during their lunch break for a simple appointment that fits conveniently into their schedules.

"New research suggests that BOTOX increases collagen production, therefore improving skin elasticity."
What to Expect After Your Injections
To achieve the best results and avoid complications, please follow post-treatment instructions carefully.
It is important not to rub your face or apply pressure to the injection site for at least 24 hours after your procedure. It is possible for the botulinum toxin to migrate to surrounding areas of the face.
It is normal to experience some minor side effects. These may include headaches, redness, and sensitivity at the injection site. You can manage discomfort by taking over-the-counter pain medication. Alcohol can worsen certain side effects, so abstain from alcoholic beverages for a few days.
We recommend practicing good skincare to maximize the benefits of treatment. Apply a facial moisturizer daily and make sure to use sunblock before you go outside.
If you have questions or concerns at any time after your injection, do not hesitate to contact our office on the Main Line office. Our knowledgeable team will be happy to help in any way possible.

Other Botulinum Toxin Treatments BOTOX Alternatives
While BOTOX is the most popular botulinum toxin-based injectable, it is not the only one. Our practice offers two brands of botulinum toxin injectables: Dysport® and BOTOX. However, there are other brands like Xeomin® that produce similar results.
The approved uses for Dysport and Xeomin differ slightly from BOTOX, but they generally produce the same effect in a given treatment area.
During your consultation at our Main Line-area practice, we can explain the differences between BOTOX and Dysport to help you select the best injectable for your needs.
Comparing Different Injectables Botulinum Toxin VS. Dermal Fillers
You may have heard about injectable fillers like JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, or RADIESSE® and wonder how they compare to BOTOX.
While dermal fillers can also be used to treat signs of aging, they work much differently than botulinum toxin-based injectables like BOTOX and Dysport. A filler can be composed of various substances, most often hyaluronic acid. It is injected underneath the skin to fill out deep creases and add fullness to an area that has experienced volume loss.
Treatment Recommendations
For Common Concerns
While we will need to examine you in person before making any treatment recommendations, below are common examples of when botulinum toxin or dermal fillers might be more effective.

BOTOX Injections
- Treats wrinkles caused by facial expressions, such as frown lines and crow's feet
- Improves minor sagging in the muscles of eyebrows
- Prevents wrinkles before they form, and the worsening of superficial lines
Dermal Filler Injections
- Corrects deep creases that remain prominent when the face is at rest
- Treats wrinkles caused by factors other than muscle contraction
- Restores lost volume in facial features
Combining Cosmetic Injectables
In some cases, we can combine dermal fillers and BOTOX in a patient's treatment plan. This approach can target the source of the wrinkles and address the damage that has already been done.

"I have zero hesitation in recommending him." See Why Our Patients Come to Us
"I've been to Dr. Hove several times and am going back in the next few months. I just want to say that he is an extremely knowledgeable physician. I think the fact that he is an ENT AND facial plastic surgeon--he's so specialized and it shows... He listens very well to exactly what you want done and procedure-wise, is on the conservative side, which I prefer, because we all know w/ some cosmetic procedures, there's no going back! He's also a very kind person, as is his office staff. I have zero hesitation in recommending him." —Laura, 5-Star Review
Other Uses for BOTOX
/
While most of our patients seek BOTOX for purely cosmetic reasons, the injectable can be used to treat medical conditions. If you are interested in learning more about alternative uses for BOTOX, please schedule a consultation at our office on the Main Line, or send us a message online.
BOTOX FAQs We've Answered Your Most Commonly Asked Questions
We want every patient to feel confident in their decision to undergo cosmetic treatment, whether surgical or non-surgical. While you have the opportunity to ask all your questions during your consultation, we have answered some of our most frequently asked questions for you to review before your appointment. Feel free to contact our practice on the Main Line with any questions you may have before your treatment.
Does BOTOX Make You Look Older After It Wears Off?
No! Regular BOTOX injections can prevent signs of aging and keep you looking younger for longer. Patients in their 20s and 30s can benefit from BOTOX injections as a way to prevent future wrinkles before significant signs of aging begin.
Is BOTOX Painful?
BOTOX is a virtually painless procedure. Most patients won't experience pain or discomfort during or after their injections. Patients often describe the sensation as a small pinch. Sometimes, a topical anesthetic can be used if patients are nervous about the procedure.
How Do You Feel Immediately After Your Injections?
Most patients feel perfectly normal and are able to resume their daily activities. In fact, BOTOX is widely known as a "lunchtime procedure" because patients can come in during their lunch break and return to work immediately after.
Can I Wear Makeup After My BOTOX Injections?
We recommend that you not rub, poke, or massage your face for at least 24 hours following your injections to prevent the BOTOX from migrating. Therefore, we typically advise you to wait to wear makeup. Giving your skin a day to heal before wearing makeup can also reduce your risk of infection.
Does Insurance Cover BOTOX?
No. However, we offer several options to make your treatment more affordable. We've partnered with CareCredit® financing, which can break up your costs into low-interest monthly payments, and loyalty programs like Brilliant Distinctions through Allergan and the Aspire program through Galderma. Contact our office on the Main Line to learn more about our payment options.
